PENGARUH PENGGUNAAN INTERNET TERHADAP TINGKAT PENGETAHUAN KESEHATAN REPRODUKSI PADA REMAJA DI KABUPATEN BANTUL

Abstrak

Background: Adolescent is the transitional phase during which the growth and development from childhood to adulthood occur. Sixty-five million people, or 30% of total population in Indonesia were reported as adolescents in 2007. Parents feel that having discussion regarding sexual problems is taboo. Hence, teenagers tend to seek for alternative information sources, one of which the most common information source is internet.

Objective: The study aims to identify the influenze between internet utilization and knowledge level related to adolescent reproductive health in Bantul District.

Method: The research was an observational analytic study with cross-sectional design. Non-probability sampling was performed using snowball and convenience sampling method. Total number of respondents was 80 teenagers. Data were later analyzed using Spearman’s rank correlation test.

Result: The study showed that 1 person (1.3%) was categorized in the high utilization group, while 40 persons (50%) and 39 persons (48.8%) were categorized in moderate and low utilization group, respectively. Forty-seven (47) persons (58.8%) were classified in high knowledge category, whereas 32 persons (40%) were in moderate knowledge level and 1 person (1.3%) was in low knowledge level category. Statistical analysis results showed ? = 0.699, which suggested moderate correlation (>0.599) with significance value of 0.000 (p <0.005).

Conclusion: Positive and significant influence between utilization of internet and knowledge level related to reproductive health in adolescents in Bantul District was observed. The higher the internet utilization, the higher the knowledge level on reproductive health.
